There’s no single ‘best’ material—only the best for your specific application and budget

This scenario is trickier. The keywords “urethane foam vs polyurethane foam” and “nitrile rubber density” tell me you're comparing materials for cushioning, gasketing, or insulation. This is where the “small customer” dynamic often plays out.

- Pick nitrile rubber: You have contact with oils, fuels, or solvents. Nitrile’s density (which is a measure of its oil resistance and hardness) makes it ideal for hydraulic seals, but it fails in sunlight.
Scenario C: Non-critical, short-term, or “packing” applications (PET foam board, etc.)
What you’re likely looking at: PET foam board (sounds like a packaging/structural foam), generic sealing.
Look, I'm not saying budget options are always bad. I'm saying they're riskier. But for non-critical applications, you don't need a premium silicone. “PET foam board” is a great example. It's a rigid, closed-cell foam used in packaging or composite panels. It has nothing to do with silicone. If you're buying it, you probably need structural rigidity with low weight, not a high-temp seal.

Stop looking for a single answer. There isn't one. Start by calculating your risk of failure. The right material—and whether it’s Momentive silicone, polyurethane, or nitrile—becomes obvious after that.
